Volunteer
Saint Andrew Nativity School is committed to the needs of our students. Volunteers are an essential part of the success of our school. All of the work that volunteers do at Saint Andrew Nativity School contributes to the education of our students, whether that work is directly or indirectly involved with our students. Volunteers contribute in after school tutoring, sports and extracurricular activities, as positive role models in the classroom and library, in the breakfast and lunch program, as well as in fundraising activities. With the support of volunteers, our students succeed.
A major component of volunteering at Saint Andrew Nativity School relates directly to our students. After school, Monday through Thursday, volunteers work one on one tutoring students in reading, language arts, and mathematics. High school volunteers have the opportunity to read with our students and correct their pronunciation and reading fluency while evaluating their comprehension. Adult volunteers usually work one on one with students or are available in the classroom to answer questions as they arise.
Volunteers make our athletic program possible. Through the work of committed men and women, our students have the opportunity to participate in volleyball, basketball, soccer and track. This is a major time commitment and we are grateful to the men and women who offer their support and coaching experience. Currently, athletic volunteers coordinate their time through our physical education instructor, Mr. Scott Eberly.
In order to do all the academic and physical work expected of our students, we rely upon the work of Ms. Lela Roberts and Mr. Nick Wiltgen to run our breakfast and lunch program. Generous volunteers continue to offer their services in the kitchen, preparing meals, serving students, and cleaning up afterwards. Their work is especially appreciated when we have special meals, particularly around Thanksgiving and Christmas.
In addition to the above, Academic Volunteers help support our graduates with after school tutoring here at St. Andrew Nativity School. Academic Volunteers usually work here at St. Andrew Nativity School, although some are available to tutor our grads at their respective high schools.
Finally, every year, we seek high school and adult volunteers to help with our Summer Academy. The Summer Academy is the tool with which St. Andrew Nativity School selects its incoming 6th Grade class. All applicants are required to attend the academy for 3 weeks. The Academy familiarizes our incoming students with our school schedule, policies and practices. The Summer Academy also familiarizes our staff and administration with the potential incoming class, allowing us to select from among the applicants those students who are best suited to our educational practices. High School Students who volunteer act as teachers’ aides and help facilitate activities inside and outside of the classroom. Adult Volunteers, those with teaching experience, work alongside our staff as teachers for the three week Summer Academy.
Thank you for your interest in Nativity School!
