Counseling

Many of the students who attend St. Andrew Nativity school come from difficult family and home circumstances.  In an effort to support these students Nativity School offers a full counseling program.  The school counselor holds a Masters degree in Social Work with an LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker) accreditation, the highest certification awarded.

FAMILY PROGRAMS

The school counselor hosts family meetings in the evenings.  There are currently four 6th grade parent, and three 7th grade parent meetings per year. The school provides dinner and child care during these meetings in order to make it easier for families to attend.  The meetings are designed to keep Nativity student families more informed and engaged in the school. They also provide parents with additional information to understand their developing adolescents and issues they may be experiencing at home.

Mother-child dinners are an annual feature at Nativity School. Students pick a meal, prepare it, decorate, make a gift and host their mothers or female guardians for a dinner at the school.

STUDENT GROUPS

The school counselor offers a diverse curriculum of skills and discussion forums for the students. These include:

• Study skills
• Anti-bullying
• Immigration issues
• Cultural awareness – Black History and Hispanic Heritage Celebrations
